This guide defines and describes test methods and associated setups for semi-conductive water-blocking tape for cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated alternating-current (ac) power cables from 110 kV to 500 kV.

The purpose of this guide is to provide a basic testing method for cable manufacturers and users to measure and evaluate the properties of semi-conductive water blocking tape, to help prevent the ablation failure of semi-conductive water blocking tape, and help ensure the safe and stable operation of ac cable systems. This guide provides technical support for semi-conductive water blocking tape for XLPE insulated ac power cable of 110 kV to 500 kV and requirements for testing equipment.
