1. This British Standard relates to plugs (fused and non-fused), socket-outlets (shuttered and non-shuttered), and fused socket-outlet adaptors (shuttered and non-shuttered).

Three-pin plugs and sockets of the round-pin type, as used in domestic premises, offices, etc., for standard ratings of 2, 5, 15 and 30 amperes. Interchangeability, safety, materials, construction, dimensions. Supplement No. 2 (AMD 5809) gives additional requirements for switched socket-outlets, for use in a.c. circuits only.
