Why Choose Thermally Toughened Soda Lime Silicate Safety Glass?

Thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass is renowned for its strength and safety features. It undergoes a specialized heat treatment process that enhances its durability, making it up to five times stronger than standard glass. This makes it an ideal choice for applications where safety and reliability are paramount.

Benefits of Using This Glass Type:

  • Enhanced Safety: In the event of breakage, this glass shatters into small, blunt pieces, reducing the risk of injury.
  • Increased Strength: Its robust nature makes it suitable for high-stress environments, including facades, doors, and windows.
  • Thermal Resistance: With superior thermal resistance, it withstands significant temperature variations without compromising its structural integrity.

Applications

The versatility of thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass makes it suitable for a wide range of applications in the building industry, including:

  • Commercial Buildings: Ideal for large glass facades, partitions, and doors.
  • Residential Projects: Perfect for windows, shower doors, and balcony enclosures.
  • Public Spaces: Used in bus shelters, railings, and other high-traffic areas.

DESCRIPTION

BS EN 12150-1:2015+A1:2019

This standard BS EN 12150-1:2015+A1:2019 Glass in building. Thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 81.040.20 Glass in building

This European Standard specifies tolerances, flatness, edgework, fragmentation and physical and mechanical characteristics of monolithic flat thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass for use in buildings.

Information on curved thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass is given in Annex A, but this product does not form part of this European Standard.

Other requirements, not specified in this European Standard, can apply to thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass which is incorporated into assemblies, e.g. laminated glass or insulating glass units, or undergo an additional treatment, e.g. coating. The additional requirements are specified in the appropriate glass product standard. Thermally toughened soda lime silicate safety glass, in this case, does not lose its bending strength characteristics and its resistance to temperature differentials.

Surface finished glasses (e.g. sandblasted, acid etched) after toughening are not covered by this European Standard.
