BS EN 13476-2:2025 - Plastics Piping Systems for Non-Pressure Underground Drains and Sewers

Introducing the BS EN 13476-2:2025, a comprehensive standard that sets the benchmark for plastics piping systems designed for non-pressure underground drains and sewers. This standard is essential for professionals in the construction and civil engineering sectors who are involved in the design, installation, and maintenance of underground drainage systems.

Overview

The BS EN 13476-2:2025 standard provides detailed specifications for structured-wall piping systems made from unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene (PE). These materials are renowned for their durability, flexibility, and resistance to environmental stress, making them ideal for underground applications.

Key Features

  • Material Specifications: The standard covers pipes and fittings made from PVC-U, PP, and PE, ensuring a wide range of options for different project requirements.
  • Smooth Internal and External Surfaces: The pipes and fittings are designed with smooth surfaces to minimize friction and enhance flow efficiency, reducing the risk of blockages and ensuring optimal performance.
  • Type A System: This specification pertains to Type A systems, which are characterized by their structured-wall design, providing additional strength and stability for underground installations.

Benefits of Compliance

Adhering to the BS EN 13476-2:2025 standard ensures that your piping systems meet the highest quality and safety standards. This compliance not only enhances the reliability and longevity of your drainage systems but also provides peace of mind knowing that your installations are built to withstand the demands of underground environments.

Why Choose Structured-Wall Piping Systems?

Structured-wall piping systems offer several advantages over traditional solid-wall pipes:

  • Lightweight: Easier to handle and install, reducing labor costs and installation time.
  • Cost-Effective: The efficient use of materials in structured-wall designs often results in lower material costs.
  • Enhanced Performance: The smooth surfaces and structured design improve flow characteristics and reduce the risk of sediment build-up.
  • Environmental Resistance: These materials are resistant to corrosion, chemicals, and environmental stress, ensuring long-term performance.

Applications

The BS EN 13476-2:2025 standard is applicable to a wide range of non-pressure underground drainage and sewer applications, including:

  • Residential and commercial drainage systems
  • Municipal sewer systems
  • Industrial waste management
  • Stormwater management systems

Conclusion

The BS EN 13476-2:2025 standard is an indispensable resource for anyone involved in the design, installation, or maintenance of underground drainage systems. By specifying the use of high-quality materials and structured-wall designs, this standard ensures that your projects are built to last, providing reliable performance for years to come.

Invest in the future of your infrastructure with the BS EN 13476-2:2025 standard, and ensure that your drainage systems are equipped to handle the challenges of modern construction and environmental demands.

DESCRIPTION

BS EN 13476-2:2025

This standard BS EN 13476-2:2025 Plastics piping systems for non-pressure underground drains and sewers. Structured-wall piping systems of unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 93.030 External sewage systems
  • 23.040.20 Plastics pipes
  • 23.040.01 Pipeline components and pipelines in general
This document, together with EN 13476-1, specifies the definitions and requirements for pipes, fittings and the system based on unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) structured-wall piping systems that are intended for use in non-pressure underground drains and sewers for foul wastewater. NOTE 1 Products complying with this document can also be used in non-pressure underground drains and sewers for surface water. This document is applicable to pipes and fittings with smooth internal and external surfaces, designated as Type A. This document also specifies test methods and test parameters. This document is applicable to: a) structured-wall pipes and fittings, which are intended to be used buried underground outside the building structure; reflected in the marking of products by “U”; b) structured-wall pipes and fittings, which are intended to be used buried underground both outside (application area code “U”) and within the building structure, reflected in the marking of products by “UD”. This document is applicable to structured-wall pipes and fittings with or without an integral socket with elastomeric ring seal joints as well as welded and fused joints. This document is applicable to a range of pipe and fitting sizes, materials, pipe constructions, stiffness classes, application areas, tolerance classes and gives recommendations concerning colours. NOTE 2 It is the responsibility of the purchaser or specifier to make the appropriate selections from these aspects, taking into account their particular requirements and any relevant national regulations and installation practices or codes.
