This standard establishes the requirements to be met by a system for surveillance, prevention and control of infections related to health care (IRAS), serving as a guide for hospitals to carry out a policy on surveillance, prevention and control infection and achieve the objectives set by the organization in this field. This standard applies to hospitals that wish to: a) Implement, maintain, document and improve the effectiveness of infection control to help prevent HCAIs; b) To verify compliance with the requirements of this standard to inform customers and authorities; c) Establish a self-assessment system; d) Obtain certification by an external system for surveillance, prevention and control of infections related to health care introduced in the organization.
