The purpose of this standard is to specify the characteristics to be met by: -the grounding electrodes consisting of cylindrical, smooth, joinable, threaded, steel rods coated with a copper layer, for their protection against corrosion and to improve their ground contact resistance. -The electrodes are also available with installation accessories such as sockets, sleeves, driving tips and clamps. These types of electrodes are suitable for any kind of soil, especially for corrosive soils and for high resistivity soils where it may be necessary to use several coupled grounding rods in order to reach the depth that allows to obtain the adequate value of the ground resistance of the installation. The grounding rods covered by this standard are normally used in service and protective grounding of high voltage installations. They can also be used in low voltage electrical installations according to the cases described in the Harmonization Document UNE-HD 60364 and, in particular, according to the Harmonization Document UNE-HD 60364-5-54. This type of electrode is suitable for any kind of soil, especially for corrosive soils and for high resistivity soils where it may be necessary to use several coupled rods in order to reach the depth that allows to obtain the adequate value of the earth resistance of the installation..
