The purpose of this standard is to define the social, economic and environmental indicators to be used in assessing the implementation of a sustainable mining management system. This standard is applicable to the activities of exploration, investigation, actual extraction, preparation and dressing of minerals, recycling of waste originated in mining activities and to the activities that are derived from mining (rehabilitation, refurbishment, conditioning and maintenance of infrastructure, deposits or plots). The following are outside the scope of this standard: liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons; and the investigation or exploitation of underground structures for use as geological storage of carbon dioxide; and non-extractive metallurgy. The requirements to be met by a sustainable mining management system are indicated in the UNE 22480 standard.
