The scope of this standard is to: - Harmonize definitions, concepts and management procedures for the animal shelters (hereinafter CCPPAA) and boarding kennels for cats and dogs for the establishment of hygienic, sanitary and animal welfare guidance, based on scientific studies and experience of technical specialists. - Establish minimum requirements for such facilities and boarding kennels and CCPPAA - Establish a classification of the different types of shelters and boarding kennels according to their facilities and activities. This standard applies to animal shelters and boarding kennels, public or private, dedicated to the collection and stay of dogs and cats. This standard is intended for owners of facilities, coaches veterinarians, staff and volunteers that manage, work or collaborate in CCPPAA and boarding kennels. NOTE 1 Throughout the text the word centres is used to refer to both CCPPAA and boarding kennels. NOTE 2 Throughout the text the word animals is used to refer to dogs and cats.
