This document presents a study on the state of the art of productivity in the professional environment. The scope of this study focuses on the areas of information technology (IT), for all types and sizes of organisations. But as it is about improving productivity or efficiency at work, the recommendations are clearly applicable to any sector and any area of organisations. Many professionals are completely saturated by their jobs, with working hours that need to be extended in order to be able to perform all the tasks entrusted to them, generating situations of continuous stress and invasion of private life by the work environment. Fatigue, lack of enthusiasm, routine, tiredness and illness are the breeding ground of this increasingly frequent work scenario. The world of work is not aware that this situation has a solution. A lot of knowledge has been generated in the market focused on making professionals happier, more satisfied, relaxed and productive. However, this knowledge has not reached the management layers of organisations, and productivity is often considered an internal and private matter of each person. To break this scenario of unconscious incompetence, in which executives and professionals are not aware that they have a serious problem and that this problem has a solution, the goal of this study is to discover and compile all the existing knowledge related to improving productivity in organisations, in order to enlighten a world of work on the road to change. A set of best practices distilled from interviews with gurus or benchmarks in this discipline and from publications and references has been compiled.
