This standard describes a method for the quantitative determination of chloride in water by potentiometric titration with silver nitrate with a glass electrode and silver-silver chloride. This method is suitable for the determination of chloride in coloured or turbid water that would difficult the colour of the target endpoint for other methods. The potentiometric method can be used without pre-treatment samples containing ferric ions (if it is not present in higher concentrations than chlorides), chromate, phosphate, ferrous and other heavy metal ions.
