This international standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in Clause 4 which are relevant to manually loaded and unloaded vertical panel sawing machines (with or without integrated feed) hereinafter referred to as "machines" when they are operated, adjusted and maintained as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. Also transport, assembly, dismantling, disabling and scrapping phases are taken into account. The machines may also be fitted with one or more of the following devices/facilities, whose hazards have been dealt with: -ð the facility for scoring; -ð an angle cutting device; -ð a middle support device; -ð programmable end stops for parallel vertical cuts, with or without clamping; -ð the facility for grooving with a width of at most 20 mm in one pass by using a milling tool. The machines are designed for cutting panels consisting of: a) solid wood; b) material with similar physical characteristics as wood; c) compound materials with core consisting of polyurethane or mineral material laminated with light alloy; d) aluminium and light alloy. This International standard does not deal with the specific hazards related to processing of aluminium and light alloy a) This document is not applicable to machines: 1) with pressure beam and saw unit mounted behind the workpiece support; 2) designed to cut in vertical direction only; 3) intended for use in potentially explosive atmosphere; 4) manufactured before the date of its publication as international standard.
