This standard BS 4290:1989 Method for specifying electroplated coatings of silver and silver alloys for decorative and protective purposes is classified in these ICS categories:

This British Standard describes a method for specifying requirements for electrodeposited coatings of silver and its alloys on metallic and non-metallic materials for decorative and/or protective purposes.

This standard is not applicable to:

  1. coatings on screw threads;
  2. coatings applied on sheet or strip in the unfabricated form;
  3. coatings containing less than 95 % by mass of pure silver; or
  4. coatings of minimum thickness less than 2 µm.
