DESCRIPTION

BS 7371-6:1998+A1:2011

This standard BS 7371-6:1998+A1:2011 Coatings on metal fasteners is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 21.060.01 Fasteners in general
  • 25.220.40 Metallic coatings

This Part of BS 7371 specifies requirements for hot dip galvanized coatings on metal fasteners and accessories applied by immersion in molten zinc.

NOTE 1 Hydrogen embrittlement is not induced as a result of this galvanizing process.

The coating consists of zinc and/or zinc/iron alloy layers which are metallurgically bonded to the base material, resulting in a dust free surface which when required can be lubricated to give controlled torque/clamping force properties (see BS 7371 : Part 2 : 1993).

NOTE 2 This Part of BS 7371 should be read in conjunction with the requirements for coatings of BS 7371 : Part 1 General requirements·and·selection·guidelines.

This Part of BS 7371 also specifies requirements for the following:

  1. the minimum thickness requirements for two grades of coating;

  2. modification of internal threads to accept standard size galvanized external threads;

  3. assessment of corrosion resistance of unused coated parts.
