This standard BS 8488:2009+A1:2010 Prefabricated wiring systems intended for permanent connection in fixed installations. Specification is classified in these ICS categories:

This British Standard specifies safety requirements, together with associated tests, for prefabricated wiring systems incorporating installation couplers conforming to BS EN 61535 with a rated voltage up to and including 500 V a.c. and a maximum operating temperature not exceeding 70 °C for permanent connection in fixed installations. Prefabricated wiring systems are intended to be installed by instructed or skilled persons, including the connection and disconnection of installation couplers.

This British Standard includes tests to be conducted as part of the manufacturing process.

NOTE 1 Prefabricated wiring systems are typically used in prefabricated houses, installation cavities (such as suspended floors and ceilings), cable tray systems, cable ladder systems, cable ducting systems, cable trunking systems, commercial showrooms, partition walls and in similar applications.

NOTE 2 In locations where special conditions prevail, additional requirements might apply, e.g. accessible areas might require IP4X connectors.
