DESCRIPTION

BS EN ISO 13935-2:2026

This standard BS EN ISO 13935-2:2026 Textiles. Seam tensile properties of fabrics and made-up textile articles is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 59.080.30 Textile fabrics
  • 61.020 Clothes
This document specifies methods for the determination of seam maximum force of sewn seams when the force is applied perpendicularly to the seam. It describes the method known as the grab test. The method defined in this document is applicable to woven textile fabrics, including fabrics which exhibit stretch characteristics imparted by the presence of an elastomeric fibre, mechanical or chemical treatment. It can be applicable to fabrics produced by other techniques. It is normally not applicable to geotextiles, nonwovens, coated fabrics, textile-glass woven fabrics and fabrics made from carbon fibres or polyolefin tape yarns.[2], [3], [4] This method is applicable to straight seams only (obtained from previously sewn articles or prepared from fabric samples) and not to curved seams (see Annex B for considerations on seams). The method is restricted to the use of constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) testing machines.

Why This Standard is Important

In the textile industry, the strength and durability of seams are critical factors that determine the overall quality of a product. The BS EN ISO 13935-2:2026 standard provides a reliable method to assess these properties, ensuring that textile products meet the necessary performance criteria. By adhering to this standard, manufacturers can guarantee that their products are both safe and durable, which is essential for maintaining consumer trust and satisfaction.

Comprehensive Testing Methodology

The grab method outlined in this standard is a widely recognized technique for evaluating seam tensile properties. This method involves applying a force to a fabric sample until the seam ruptures, allowing for the determination of the maximum force the seam can withstand. This information is invaluable for manufacturers who need to ensure that their products can endure the stresses of everyday use.

Benefits for Manufacturers and Consumers

By implementing the guidelines of the BS EN ISO 13935-2:2026 standard, manufacturers can achieve several benefits:

  • Quality Assurance: Ensures that products meet high standards of quality and durability.
  • Consumer Confidence: Builds trust with consumers by providing reliable and safe products.
  • Competitive Advantage: Differentiates products in the market by adhering to internationally recognized standards.

Who Should Use This Standard?

This standard is indispensable for a wide range of professionals in the textile industry, including:

  • Textile Manufacturers: To ensure their products meet industry standards.
  • Quality Control Specialists: To verify the strength and durability of seams in textile products.
  • Product Developers: To design products that meet consumer expectations for quality and performance.

Conclusion

The BS EN ISO 13935-2:2026 standard is an essential tool for anyone involved in the production and quality assurance of textile products. By providing a clear and reliable method for testing seam tensile properties, this standard helps ensure that textile products are both durable and safe for consumers. Whether you are a manufacturer, quality control specialist, or product developer, this standard is a valuable resource that can help you achieve excellence in your field.
