Mezi základní charakteristiky nevytvrzených směsí řadí hustotu, viskozitu a parametry vztahující se k síťování. Ve vytvrzeném stavu specifikuje pro jednotlivé typy směsí hodnoty základních mechanických a elektrických vlastností, tvrdosti, teploty skelného přechodu, tepelné odolnosti, hustoty, nasákavosti vodou, hydrolytické stability a obsahu popela.
