This guide describes approaches to continuous thermal monitoring (CTM) of electrical power distribution equipment to optimize system reliability and elevate safe maintenance practices.

CTM can complement or replace traditional periodic infrared (IR) thermographic surveys. This document helps users and facility designers to specify and select CTM systems for their switchgear and motor control centers (MCCs) up to 52 kV. This guide describes how to obtain desired/required performance data to improve system reliability, improve maintenance practices, and to supplement or displace periodic thermographic inspections.
