DESCRIPTION

IEEE 400.4-2015

This guide presents the practices and procedures for testing and diagnosis of shielded power cable systems rated 5 kV and above using DAC voltages. It applies to all types of power cable systems that are intended for the transmission or distribution of electric power. The tabulated test levels assume that the cable systems have an effectively grounded neutral system or a grounded metallic shield.

The purpose of this guide is to provide uniform practices and procedures for performing (DAC) voltage off-line tests on installed shielded power cable systems in the field and to provide guidelines for evaluation of the test results. As at present certain test parameters and procedures require further study and clarification, this guide provides a starting point that can be grown and improved with time as more experience is gathereed from the field and analyzed.

New IEEE Standard - Active. The application of Damped ac (DAC) for field testing of power cables is described. DAC voltage withstand testing and diagnostic tests and measurements that are performed in combination with DAC voltage application in the field on shielded power cable systems are discussed. Whenever possible, cable systems are treated in a similar manner to individual cables. Tables and figures are included to show the effectiveness of the DAC ac voltage test, the diagnostic evaluation and the user experiences in the past years for field testing of different medium and (extra) high voltage cable system.
