This standard includes specifications for the handling and sorting of textile waste in order to facilitate its reuse or recycling in accordance with the waste hierarchy. The purpose of this standard is to ensure the high quality of second-hand textiles for reuse and/or their suitability as appropriate input material for subsequent recycling processes. This standard is intended for professionals across the textile value chain, such as textile producers, importers and retailers, organisations active in the sorting and recycling of collected post-consumer textile waste, as well as other stakeholders such as municipalities, legislators and the general public. This standard does not apply to furniture or footwear. For specifications relating to the collection of textile waste or second-hand clothing, UNE 40701 applies.
