This document specifies the technical and functional characteristics of all types of Remote Vehicle Emission Measurement Instruments. It specifies the requirements and test methods for assessing the conformity of these instruments. It also includes the system for verifying instruments in service. For conformity assessment, it only covers type examination and conformity to type based on instrument verification, although the legislator could establish other conformity assessment procedures such as conformity to type based on quality assurance in the production process or conformity based on full quality assurance plus design examination. This standard can be used as a support for such procedures not included in it. This standard applies to the entire vehicle remote emission measurement instrument (external sensors, internal sensors, wired or wireless, indicators, software, etc.) as a whole or in parts. The applicability of the data measured by this type of instrument, as well as the definition of what is considered a large emitter, is outside the scope of this standard.
